This is a "progressive" school and as such, has very little structure or consequences. There is no homework required and if a student fails a class, they are allowed to give it another go. The school is not effectively preparing their students for college; there is homework in college and a lot of it. Students are able to pick their classes every quarter, it is very difficult to translate what the course is trying to teach. My son has the same advisor 9-12 and he has been great; but very little communication initiated. There are NO parent/teacher conferences. The advisor gets feedback from the teachers and gives it to parents. Overall parent communication is poor. The school billed itself as collaborative with group projects and labs - nope. My son started during the pandemic so perhaps that changed things, but I haven't seen much growth in the 3 years since. Once a good student, he is failing with little hope of attending college. I wish I had transferred him in 10th.

I am currently a senior at NYC ischool. I have enjoyed my high school year there. It is a small school, but honestly, it doesn't affect you meeting new people since you can choose your classes and all grade levels can be in those classes unless it is a required class for your grade. Mostly all the teachers are good and really do like the classes they teach since they create the class and its their curriculum. Our school doesn't believe in homework, students can only take 3 AP classes max senior or junior year and are not big on tests, or taking off points for late work. This can either be good or bad depending on you, but it doesn't affect your chances of getting into a good college. For example, in my school year, people have gotten into Columbia University, Barnard College, Middlebury College, University of Pennsylvania, Tulane University, Lafayette College, and many more good colleges ( it all depends on what you make of your high school years). Overall I had fun.

Although iSchool isn't as academically rigorous as other high schools the wide variety of courses offered are interesting and prepare you for similar classes in college. Students have a good relationship with teachers and help is accessible. Students get to pick their own classes/schedule similar to how it is done in college. All classes and module have you think critically and are directly related to your everyday life. I love this school and it is a great fit for someone who wants engaging courses.
